Website Redesign Cost
A website is often the first place a potential customer goes to decide whether to do business with you. When that site loads slowly, fails to convert the traffic it already gets, or looks like it was built for a different company, the redesign question becomes a budget question. And budget questions get answered badly, because almost every published price range for web design is written for the American market and is four to ten times what the same work costs in India.
So this is the Indian version, in rupees, with the scope that sits inside each number.
How much does a website redesign cost in India?
Most business website redesigns in India cost between Rs 15,000 and Rs 3,50,000, plus taxes as applicable. A one to three page refresh starts around Rs 15,000 and a five-page brochure site sits around Rs 35,000. A twelve-page site with a CMS runs about Rs 75,000. A larger site with a bespoke design system and proper on-page SEO is around Rs 1,50,000. An ecommerce store starts around Rs 45,000, and custom platform work above Rs 2,25,000.
The variable that moves the price is not how good the design looks. It is page count, how much of the work is bespoke rather than templated, whether content is written for you, and whether anything has to talk to another system.
Here is how the bands break down in practice. These are our own starting prices, plus taxes as applicable, and they are representative of what a competent studio in Bengaluru charges rather than what a marketplace freelancer quotes.
| Scope | Typical starting cost, plus taxes | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | From Rs 15,000 | 1 to 3 template pages, mobile-first, contact form, basic SEO and GA4 |
| Launch | From Rs 35,000 | Up to 5 responsive pages, copy polish, lead form or WhatsApp, GA4 and Search Console |
| Business | From Rs 75,000 | Up to 12 pages, CMS so you can edit it, custom homepage, two conversion paths, schema |
| Growth | From Rs 1,50,000 | Up to 25 pages, bespoke design system, advanced on-page SEO, integrations and analytics events |
| Commerce | From Rs 45,000 | A store on Shopify or similar, cart and checkout, UPI and cards, shipping and stock |
| Commerce, custom | From Rs 2,25,000 | Up to 100 products on a custom build, product schema and feeds, conversion instrumentation |
| Platform | From Rs 3,50,000 | Custom architecture, user accounts, bespoke back-end, scoped to requirement |
Most redesigns for an established small or mid-sized business land in the Rs 40,000 to Rs 1,50,000 range, and a CMS you can edit yourself arrives from Rs 75,000. That is the point where you get a structure built around how people actually buy from you, and enough SEO groundwork that the redesign does not undo the rankings you already have.
Every figure here is an Indian market rate. The same scopes quote several times higher in the US, UK and the Gulf, and the difference is labour cost rather than output quality, which is why so much of this work is delivered from India in the first place. Within India the spread is narrower, though Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi studios typically sit above smaller cities for an identical brief.
The same forces shape how much a new website costs from scratch, and a rebuild is frequently cheaper than a redesign that has to work around a bad existing foundation.
What drives the cost of a redesign up or down?
Five things move the number: total page count, how much design is bespoke versus templated, whether you or the studio writes the content, integrations with other software, and whether SEO migration is included. Of those, content and migration are the two most often left out of a cheap quote, and the two that cost you most when they are missing.
Page count is the obvious one and the least interesting. The expensive variables are the ones that do not appear on a feature list.
Bespoke versus template. A template build reuses a proven layout and spends its budget on your content. A bespoke design system builds the layout rules from scratch around your brand. Bespoke costs roughly double, and it is worth it when your positioning genuinely differs from your competitors’ and not otherwise.
Content. Rewriting copy for a new structure is real work, usually a week or more of it. If a quote does not say who writes the content, the answer is you, and you will find that out three weeks before launch.
Integrations. A contact form is free. A CRM, a payment gateway, a booking system, an inventory feed, or anything that has to stay in sync with software you already run adds engineering time in a way that page count does not predict.
SEO migration. URL mapping and 301 redirects so the redesign does not cost you your rankings. This is a named line item in a serious quote. Where it is missing, the risk moves to you, and it is expensive risk. We cover what goes wrong in detail in website redesign services.
How much do freelancers charge for website design in India?
Indian freelancers typically quote Rs 15,000 to Rs 60,000 for a small business website, and Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per hour for ongoing work. That makes them a reasonable choice when your sitemap, brand and content are already finalised and the job is execution rather than thinking.
Freelancers are cost-effective on well-defined briefs. The risk is not skill, it is concentration. One person covers design, development, copy, SEO and QA, and the weakest of those five determines the result. Backend architecture, API integrations and SEO migration are where single-operator projects most often come apart, because those are the parts that are invisible until they fail.
The other practical issue is continuity. A site is a living asset, and if the person who built it becomes unavailable in eight months, you need someone else to be able to pick it up. Ask what platform it is built on and whether a second developer could take it over. If the answer involves a page builder nobody else uses, factor in the cost of the rebuild you will eventually pay for.
How much do agencies charge for website design in India?
Indian agencies and studios typically charge Rs 75,000 to Rs 5,00,000 for a business website redesign, with monthly retainers for ongoing SEO and content starting around Rs 10,000. You are paying for a team, a process, and the parts of the job a single freelancer cannot cover well.
What the extra money buys, when it is spent properly, is discovery before design, a structure built from how your customers actually decide, copy written by someone who writes for a living, and a migration plan that protects your existing search rankings.
What it sometimes buys instead is account management overhead and a prettier deck. The way to tell the difference before you pay is to ask for a site they redesigned over a year ago and what happened to its enquiries afterwards. Anyone doing this seriously has an answer.
Be careful with the top of the Indian agency range. Above roughly Rs 5,00,000, you should be buying genuinely custom software, not a marketing site with more animation on it.
How much does website hosting and maintenance cost?
Hosting for a modern static or edge-deployed site can be free, and frequently is. Ongoing maintenance in India runs about Rs 6,000 to Rs 20,000 per month depending on how much active work you want, covering backups, security updates, uptime monitoring and a monthly health report.
This is the line item most businesses forget to budget for, and the one where the old assumptions are most out of date.
Hosting used to be a meaningful recurring cost. Shared hosting at Rs 200 to Rs 500 a month came with real performance and security problems, and a decent managed WordPress or cloud plan ran Rs 2,000 to Rs 8,000 monthly. That is still true for WordPress. It is not true for sites built on modern static or edge frameworks, which deploy to a global edge network at no hosting cost at all and load faster while doing it. Our own builds ship that way, which removes the hosting line entirely.
Maintenance is a separate question and does not go away. Software updates, security patches, backups, uptime monitoring and the occasional content change need somebody responsible for them. A light care plan is around Rs 6,000 a month, a mid-tier around Rs 12,000, and a comprehensive one around Rs 20,000.
If you want the site to actively grow rather than just stay alive, that is a different budget again. SEO retainers in India start around Rs 10,000 a month for a foundation scope and rise with keyword count and content volume. Worth separating in your head from maintenance, because they buy different things.
Is a redesign worth the money?
A redesign pays for itself when the current site is measurably costing you enquiries. If you can point to slow load times, a poor mobile experience, unclear messaging or a structure that hides what you sell, the maths usually works quickly. If the only complaint is that the design feels dated to you while it still converts, it probably does not.
The honest calculation is straightforward. Take the value of one customer, multiply by how many enquiries you currently get in a year, and estimate what a meaningful improvement in conversion would be worth. A site that converts two percent instead of one percent doubles your enquiries without a rupee more spent on traffic. Against a Rs 75,000 build, that arithmetic tends to resolve fast for any business where a customer is worth more than a few thousand rupees.
If you are not sure whether the site is the problem at all, why your website gets traffic but no leads is the better diagnostic to read first, and the signs it’s time to redesign covers the triggers that actually justify the spend. Once the budget is settled, how to redesign a website without losing SEO covers the migration work that protects the rankings you are paying to keep. If you are based in Bengaluru, what a website costs in Bangalore sets out the local ranges and the questions that make two quotes comparable.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest a professional website redesign can cost in India?
A genuinely professional small-site redesign starts around Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000 plus taxes as applicable, for up to five responsive pages with a contact form, basic SEO and analytics. Below that you are usually buying a template fill-in with no strategy, no content work and no migration plan, which is fine for a brand-new business and risky for an existing one with rankings to protect.
Does website redesign pricing include GST?
Quoted build prices in India are normally exclusive of GST, with 18 percent added on top. Always confirm which way a quote is stated before comparing two of them, because an inclusive and an exclusive quote look eighteen percent apart when they are identical.
What factors drive up the cost of a website redesign?
The main drivers are the number of unique page templates, third-party integrations such as CRM or payment systems, custom interactive features, the volume of content that needs writing or migrating, and any accessibility or compliance requirements.
Is a template-based redesign always cheaper?
Upfront, yes, because it removes most of the design hours. Over time it can cost more, since templates carry code bloat that hurts page speed, restrict how the site can grow, and make you look like every other business using the same theme.
How long does a website redesign take?
Most business redesigns take six to twelve weeks from kickoff to launch. Small sites can be done in three to four weeks. What delays projects is almost never the build, it is waiting on content, photos and internal decisions.
Should content migration be handled by the agency?
Yes. Migration is where redesigns lose rankings, and it needs the person who knows the new URL structure to map every old address to its closest new equivalent with a 301 redirect. Handing that back to the client is how sites end up with a few hundred 404s nobody notices for a month.
Who owns the website after it is built?
You should, completely. Source code, domain registration, hosting account, analytics and Search Console should all be in your name, and you should confirm that in writing before you pay anything. If a provider holds your domain, you are renting your own business.
